About the Presentation

Healthcare workers are frequently exposed to injuries when dealing with difficult and combative behaviors.  These behaviors are presented by patients, residents, visitors, co-workers and others.  This presentation will review the related challenges faced by healthcare workers and provide controls that can be incorporated by organizations and individual workers to deal with the challenging behaviors that can lead to injury.

Presenter Biography

Joseph Sanna, Jr. is a Senior Risk Control Specialist for The PMA Companies.  Joe provides risk management services for PMA clients, which include Healthcare, construction and educational operations in the Northeastern United States. A major responsibility of his job is to provide educational presentations to employers and management personnel, with a focus on cost containment and OSHA compliance. Joe has worked for PMA for twenty years. Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1992 and his Masters of Science degree in 1998, both in Safety Sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Designation in 1996, holds the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) designation and is an NRCA CERTA Authorized Trainer. Joe is also a member of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and has been a repeat ASSE Professional Development Conference and Pennsylvania Governor’s Occupational Health and Safety Conference speaker.
